SLO man killed, Arroyo Grande woman arrested in suspected DUI crash on Hwy. 227

A San Luis Obispo man was killed and an Arroyo Grande woman was arrested following a head-on crash Sunday night on Highway 227, according to a news release from the California Highway Patrol.

At about 6 p.m., 26-year-old Chelsea Stiles of Arroyo Grande was driving a 2005 GMC north on Highway 227 south of Patchett Road, the CHP said.

At the same time, 72-year-old Terry Tilton was driving a 2013 Honda south on the highway, the CHP said.

The GMC traveled into the southbound lane and collided head-on with the Honda “for an unknown reason,” according to the news release. Tilton was pronounced dead at the scene, the CHP said.

Stiles was moderately injured and taken to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, along with an 18-month-old girl who received minor injuries. The girl, also from Arroyo Grande, was a passenger in Stiles’ car, the CHP said.

Authorities arrested Stiles on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, the CHP said.

The agency said the collision is under investigation.

Additional information was not immediately available.
