San Luis Obispo County Public Works issued a Boil Water Notice for the Shandon area Tuesday afternoon, after water was shut off in the morning because of a line break.

The North County community’s water was turned off at 11:45 a.m. after county staff discovered the broken water line, which was caused about 9 a.m. by a contractor working near the San Juan Creek Bridge, according to Public Works. County staff fixed the line by about 4:30 p.m.

Residents in the area were being encouraged to use boiled tap water or bottled water for drinking and cooking purposes as a safety precaution until test results become available Thursday.
