Two people were killed and three others injured early Sunday in a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 154 near Los Olivos.

About 2 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, AMR and the California Highway Patrol were dispatched to Highway 154 east of Zaca Station Road, Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason said.

Three vehicles were involved in the collision near the “S curve” on Highway 154, where firefighters had to extricate victims from more than one vehicle, Eliason said.

Two people, a male and a female, were declared dead at the scene, Eliason said.

One male had major injuries and another had moderate injuries, he added. The fifth victim, a female, had minor injuries. All three were taken to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Eliason said.

Names, ages and hometowns of those involved in the crash were not released, and details on the conditions of those who were injured were not available.

Officers from the CHP’s Buellton office were investigating the cause of the crash.

The crash occurred on the segment of Highway 154 unaffected by the Thomas Fire closures.

The CHP has closed the section of Highway 154 between Cathedral Oaks/Highway 192 in Santa Barbara and Highway 246 in the Santa Ynez Valley to give easier access to fire equipment at the Lake Cachuma base camp.
