Paso fairgrounds offers to house horses evacuated from Southern California fires
Horses that need to be evacuated from the fires burning in Southern California fires can be housed at the Paso Robles Event Center.
According to a news release, the Event Center has received calls with requests to house horses from the Thomas Fire burning in Santa Barbara and Ventura counties, as well as the slate of other wildfires that have erupted throughout Southern California in the past week.
The center has 190 vacant stalls available for rental. A veterinarian will be available to perform health inspections on all horses, mules, donkeys or livestock taken to the facility, and the animal must clear inspection before being allowed in.
Owners are expected to care and feed for their own animals, including cleaning stalls during their stay or upon departure (there is no feed or bedding on the grounds). If the owner is unable to do so, the Event Center can make arrangements.
Should owners require RV hookups, those arrangements can be made as well.
The center will receive horses between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. by arrangement, or outside those hours in an emergency situation. Individuals must notify the center at least three hours in advance of their arrival, using the emergency phone number, 805-712-9005.
The facility is locked from 4 p.m. to 7 a.m., Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. The facility will be closed Sundays, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
