The Food Bank Coalition of San Luis Obispo County has been allowed to resume operations after its San Luis Obispo warehouse was temporarily shut down last week.

The Food Bank was closed by the Department of Public Health after rodent droppings and “unsanitary conditions” were discovered at the facility on Nov. 27. The facility also had an expired Processed Food Registration, according to CEO Kevin Drabinski.

Since the closure, the Food Bank’s pest control contractor has inspected the building, and the Food Bank has agreed to all of the recommendations, Drabinski said. Additionally, the entire warehouse floor has been industrially cleaned.

Public Health conducted a follow-up on-site evaluation and assessment this week and gave the agency the go-ahead to reopen.

“As a health advocacy and food distribution agency, we are held to the highest standards of food safety,” Drabinski said in a release. “Having returned to full compliance, we will be vigilant to ensure that we exceed these standards in years to come.”

All normal distributions and non-profit organization collaborations are expected to resume by Wednesday.
