Fire crews respond to reports of smoke at Cerro San Luis Christmas tree

Update, 5 p.m.

Where there’s smoke, there’s not always fire.

Witnesses reported smoke from the area of the light-up Christmas tree on Cerro San Luis, but when crews arrived, there was no fire — just a smoking generator, according to the San Luis Obispo City Fire Department.

Crews were soon dismissed from the scene, while the generator was being repaired.

It was unclear whether the generator would be fixed in time for the holiday lights to be turned on for the night.
