Palm trees catch fire along Highway 101 in Santa Barbara
Several palm trees caught fire Thursday afternoon along northbound Highway 101 in Santa Barbara near the Garden Street offramp.
The fire started about 1:30 p.m. near the base of a palm tree at what appeared to be a homeless camp, said fire Battalion Chief Jim McCoy. The flames quickly spread to the tree, then to adjacent trees.
The blaze, which was off the northbound side of Highway 101, was quickly brought under control, according to the Santa Barbara City Fire Department. Three engine companies responded and doused the flames.
An investigator was on scene Thursday afternoon looking for the cause, McCoy said.
No injuries were reported.
