1 killed when car crashes into tree in Atascadero
One person was killed when their car crashed into a tree on eastbound Highway 41 in Atascadero on Wednesday.
The crash happened just before noon near Old Morro Road East, according to Cmdr. Joe Allen of the Atascadero Police Department. The car, a sedan, left the road, rolled onto its side and hit a tree, Allen said. When officers arrived at the scene, they “immediately” knew the crash was fatal, Allen said.
No one else was injured in the crash.
It took authorities about four hours to investigate the crash, which included getting the car back to the road and extracting the body, Allen said. Highway 41 was initially shut down during the investigation, but eastbound motorists were rerouted through Old Morro Road East and westbound motorists could continue on the highway.
Additional details, such as the cause of the crash and the identity of the deceased, were not immediately available.
