Pedestrian killed by car on Foothill Boulevard may have been drinking, CHP says

The California Highway Patrol is investigating a late-night car crash that killed a 42-year-old pedestrian Wednesday.

Kevin Jourdan of Grover Beach was crossing West Foothill Boulevard near O’Connor Way when he was hit by the car shortly after 10 p.m. CHP said Jourdan was wearing dark clothing as he darted across the roadway in front of the car.

The driver, 22-year-old Lucas Munos of Los Osos, was unable to avoid hitting Jourdan, according to CHP officer Jordan Richards.

Jourdan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richards said it is unknown why the man was running across the road in that area, where there is limited lighting. Jourdan may have been drinking before he attempted to cross the street, Richards added.

“There was a strong odor of alcohol coming from him,” Richards said, noting that the incident is still under investigation.

An autopsy and toxicology reports are pending.

The driver did not appear to have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Richards said.
