R.A.C.E. Matters SLO County is asking local businesses to help spread a message of inclusivity by displaying SLO Safe Space decals in their windows.

Several businesses have already offered their support, including SLOFly, Novo Restaurant and Lounge, Woodstock’s Pizza, Sidecar, Big Sky Cafe, Luna Red, RISE and SLOCO Massage & Wellness Spa.

Displaying the decal reflects that business has “chosen to outwardly express its support for groups that have felt the effects of increased hateful rhetoric and behavior throughout the nation,” according to a news release.

Participants also sign a statement of support saying that “hateful and threatening speech or behavior toward anyone because of his, her or their sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, country of origin, or ethnicity will not be tolerated.”

The decals were produced after $700 was raised through individual contributions made by members of the community via GoFundMe.
