Original story:

Crews on Saturday evening battled a growing fire near San Miguel that threatened structures on the border of San Luis Obispo and Monterey counties.

Cal Fire crews from both counties responded after 6 p.m. to the blaze — known as the Parkfield Fire — which started on Vineyard Canyon Road and scorched land between San Miguel in San Luis Obispo County and Parkfield, a small town to the northeast in Monterey County.

The fire had burned about 50 acres as of 7:30 p.m. and has the potential to scorch hundreds of acres, according to Cal Fire Capt. Tim Berget.

“It’s growing rapidly at this moment,” Berget said.

Crews battled the fire with air and ground attacks. Six air tankers and two helicopters attacked from above, while firefighters and dozers fought from the ground, Berget said.

The blaze threatened structures along the line between the two counties, but evacuation orders had not yet been issued as of 7:30 p.m., Berget said.
