Kayakers spot a black bear roaming around Lopez Lake

A Lompoc dad and daughter spotted a young black bear roaming the hills of Lopez Lake during their Father’s Day excursion.

Bruce Tkachuk and his 11-year-old daughter Arianna were kayaking Saturday when they saw the bear, which Tkachuk said seemed to have no fear of humans.

“Let’s hope he doesn’t want to go for a swim with me,” Tkachuk says in the video, which shows the bear fairly close to the water.

The pair, which frequently kayaks at the lake, has seen more of these bears lately, he said.
