A San Luis Obispo man was killed in Kansas on Saturday night when he was hit by a car as he biked along a highway in Wichita County, according to KAKE, a Wichita-based television station.

The crash happened about 10:10 p.m. on K-96, a highway in western Kansas, the station said. The cyclist was identified as Eric Fishbein, 61, of San Luis Obispo. He was pronounced dead at the scene, KAKE said.

Fishbein was participating in the Trans Am Bike Race, according to a Facebook post from the organization. The Trans Am Bike Race is a cross-country bike race that starts in Astoria, Oregon, and ends in Yorktown, Virginia.

KAKE also reported that no one else was injured in the crash, which is under investigation.
