The day is a celebration of the return of the monarch butterflies to the eucalyptus trees in the grove.
About 3,000 people attended the event, State Parks docent Jan Ojerholm said. There were activities for children and scopes for people to view the butterflies. Ojerholm said that about 15,000 butterflies returned this year.
