It’s a gusher! Car hits fire hydrant in SLO
Firefighters worked to shut off a gushing fire hydrant after it was hit by a vehicle on Froom Ranch Way next to Home Depot on Saturday morning.
“We use a special procedure to shut off the water slowly and incrementally to avoid damaging more pipes and equipment,” San Luis Obispo fire Capt. Mark Vasquez said. “We work in partnership with the public works department. We bring the gusher down to about 3 feet, and they finish the procedure by completely shutting it off.”
The procedure took almost an hour for the water to be completely off.
