Small roadside fire near Hwy. 101 likely started by broken brake pads
A small roadside fire late Sunday morning near northbound Highway 101 was likely started by broken brake pads, San Luis Obispo City Fire Department Battalion Chief Ray Hais said.
The blaze burned grass and bushes on the side of the road across the freeway from the KSBY building in San Luis Obispo, Hais said. He added that the department was notified of the fire shortly before 11 a.m.
The area, which measured about 20 by 40 feet, was extinguished within four to five minutes. San Luis Obispo City Fire Department and Cal Fire responded to the incident. CHP closed the slow lane for about 20 minutes.
Hais said the department found the brake pads on the side of the road, and that a hot piece of the pads likely fell into the bushes and started the fire.
There were no injuries reported.
