President and CEO of SLO hospital to retire after almost 20 years
The President and CEO of French Hospital Medical Center in San Luis Obispo will be retiring at the end of 2022.
Alan Iftiniuk has held his post as the leader of French Hospital, which is run by Dignity Health Southern California, since 2004, according to a news release from Dignity Health.
He first joined Dignity Health in San Francisco in 2001.
The hospital has grown considerably under Iftiniuk’s leadership.
During his tenure, some of the new additions to French Hospital include: the Copeland, Forbes and Rossi Cardiac Care Center; the Hearst Cancer Resource Center; the Oppenheimer Family Center for Emergency Medicine; the Stollmeyer Family Birthing Center; the George Hoag Family Hybrid Surgical Suite; the Copeland Health Education Pavilion and the Swanson Family Chapel, according to the release.
French Hospital is not done building.
Coming up next is “the new French Hospital,” which will bring an 85,000-square-foot patient care tower with private patient rooms, a Level III NICU, an expanded intensive care unit, an interfaith chapel, parking tower and a heliport to the San Luis Obispo hospital, the release said.
“One of the most rewarding successes has come in recent times with the Beyond Health fundraising campaign, aimed to raise $30 million for the new hospital expansion project,” Iftiniuk said in the release. “In total, $17 million has been raised to date, which will serve the community well into the future, ensuring a lasting legacy of our commitment to the health and wellness of the people of San Luis Obispo County.”
During his tenure, Iftiniuk spearheaded fundraising efforts on behalf of French Hospital, the release said. He helped raise $58 million for the hospital through the French Hospital Medical Foundation since the foundation’s inception in 2005.
“Alan has a well-known history of creating a culture of quality that has ensured the delivery of compassionate care to the community of San Luis Obispo for decades,” Julie Sprengel, president and CEO of Dignity Health’s Southern California Division, said in the release. “As he prepares for retirement, he leaves the hospital strongly positioned for continued growth and success.”
National recruitment for the next president and CEO is ongoing, the release said.
