SLO man spent a month fighting COVID-19 in the ICU. Sierra Vista sent him home with style

Hospital staff cheered the recovery of a San Luis Obispo man who was released Friday after he survived a battle with COVID-19.

The man, identified by Tenet Health Central Coast as John, was treated at Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center intensive care unit for about a month.

Hospital officials didn’t release his full name, saying he needs to rest and avoid company or calls for the time being.

Hospital staff celebrated his discharge by lining the hallway and cheering him on with balloons and applause, to the sounds of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believing” in the background.

Upon his exit, the patient said, “Thanks to everybody here, they did a great job,” according to hospital officials.

John added: “I would like to say, seriously, to anybody who is getting sick: Don’t do what I did and wait. I’m sure waiting an extra day or two cost me a week or two.”
