3 more SLO County residents die from COVID as numbers trend downward
Coronavirus numbers continued their downward trend, but despite the drop in cases, more deaths from the virus were reported.
San Luis Obispo County added 152 new coronavirus cases since Thursday, according to data from the county Public Health Department. Three of the last seven days were in the teens and none was over 31.
Public Health reported nine people were receiving treatment for severe COVID-19 in area hospitals on Wednesday with two patients in intensive care, according to the Public Health Department.
On Wednesday, the county reported an additional three deaths due to the coronavirus, involving people ranging in age from their 70s to 90s, according to Public Health. Locally, 548 people have died due to the virus.
In total, 63,475 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.
Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past seven days break down day by day:
The relatively low case numbers this week and the previous week drove the two-week daily case average down to 24, the lowest its been since May 3.
The number of active cases now stands at 167, a substantial drop from a month ago when 442 active cases were reported on Aug. 14.
These numbers don’t provide a complete picture of COVID-19 incidence in the county because they do not include positive COVID-19 antigen tests or tests taken at home, according to Public Health.
The agency on Sept. 7 released data showing that unvaccinated people account for about 62% of COVID-19 cases, 70% of hospitalizations and 64% of deaths since June 15, 2021.
Over the past seven days these are the top coronavirus cases by city: 26 in San Luis Obispo, 25 in Paso Robles and 23 in Atascadero.
