SLO County adds 500 new COVID cases. See where the majority were counted
COVID-19 case numbers seem to be trending down, with San Luis Obispo County adding 510 new coronavirus cases since Wednesday, according to data from the county Public Health Department.
Public Health reported nine people were receiving treatment for severe COVID-19 in area hospitals on Wednesday, according to the Public Health Department. One patient is in the intensive care unit.
No new COVID-19 deaths were reported this week. Locally, 538 people have died from the virus.
Public Health reported a total of 510 new infections during the last seven days ending Wednesday.
Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past seven days break down day by day:
The two-week daily average dropped from 65 new cases per day on Aug. 17 to 57 on Wednesday, according to Public Health data.
The weekly COVID-19 case numbers are likely a significant undercount to the actual disease incidence in the county. The numbers do not include positive antigen test results taken at home, according to Public Health.
Based on available data, 62,769 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.
Active cases ranged from a low of 332 to a high of 467 in the past seven days, based on available data.
As of Wednesday, the number of active cases stands at 340, on par with the active case numbers reported on Aug. 11.
The agency on Aug. 24 released data showing that unvaccinated people account for about 61.7% of COVID-19 cases, 70.5% of hospitalizations and 64% of deaths since June 15.
Over the past seven days, these are the top coronavirus cases by place: 149 in Paso Robles, 90 in San Luis Obispo and 68 in Atascadero.

Free coronavirus testing is available at clinics in Grover Beach, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo.
