COVID test-to-treat services now available at several more SLO County locations
People who believe they may have COVID-19 and are at risk of developing severe symptoms can now access immediate testing and antiviral treatment at 12 locations in San Luis Obispo County.
The test-to-treat care model offers rapid COVID testing, a medical consultation if needed and Paxlovid antiviral medication for eligible patients — all in one place, according to a Public Health news release.
It is intended for people 65 and over or those with health conditions that make them at high risk for developing severe COVID and possibly requiring hospitalization.
“If you are 65 or older, please get tested right away if you experience symptoms so that you can get treatment if you need it,” Dr. Penny Borenstein, county Public Health officer, said in the release. “With Paxlovid, treatment needs to be started within five days of the first symptoms.”
This week, COVID test-to-treat services launched at community testing sites in Grover Beach, Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo, where services are offered at no cost, as well as at Med Plus Dignity Health Urgent Care Centers in Atascadero and Pismo Beach, the release said.
The county recommends scheduling an appointment in advance to access test-to-treat services at the community test sites. Appointments can be scheduled online at bit.ly/reportcovidpos or by calling 888-634-1123. Walk-ins are accepted as supplies and staffing allow, generally with more availability in the mornings.
Pharmacy and urgent care sites generally charge a fee for testing and medical consultation, and most will bill insurance for this cost. The medication itself, if prescribed, is free of charge. Call ahead for more information about cost.
