SLO County sees its third straight week with no new COVID deaths
COVID-19 case numbers in San Luis Obispo County continue to stay low despite slight a uptick this week.
The county added 70 new COVID cases since last Wednesday, according to data from the county Public Health Department.
Hospitalizations are staying low, with three people receiving treatment in local hospitals as of Wednesday, according to Public Health. No COVID patients are currently in local intensive care units.
This is the third consecutive week with no new coronavirus-related deaths reported. Locally, 496 people have died due to the virus.
The two-week average number of new daily cases dropped to 9 as of Wednesday. It is the first time the average has fallen to single digits since mid-July. In fact, daily counts have been in single digits for eight of the last 14 days.
Although case counts are low compared to peak periods of the pandemic, there was a small increase today compared to last week and last month.
The number of active cases now stands at 186, an increase of about 45 cases since last Wednesday, April 13, and an increase of about seven cases from this time last month, March 20.

Coronavirus case numbers recorded by the county only include positive tests collected at community test sites and do not include positive results from at-home antigen tests, health officials said.
In total, 53,604 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.
The agency on April 20 released data showing that unvaccinated people account for about 65% of COVID-19 cases, 75% of hospitalizations and 68% of deaths since June 15.
Over the past seven days these are the top coronavirus cases by city: 48 in San Luis Obispo, 30 in Paso Robles and 18 in Nipomo.

Free coronavirus testing is available at clinics in San Luis Obispo, Grover Beach and Paso Robles.

Testing is administered at 801 Grand Ave in San Luis Obispo, 1336 Ramona Ave #A in Grover Beach and 800 Pine Street in Paso Robles.

The county Public Health Department is also administering vaccines and boosters on a walk-in basis at public health clinics in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and Grover Beach.
