No new local COVID deaths in 2 weeks as SLO County cases remain low

CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story included the wrong number of new cases for the last week. There were a total of 58 new COVID cases in the past seven days. The coronavirus is holding at a low simmer in San Luis Obispo County with no new deaths and low case numbers since last week.

San Luis Obispo County added 58 new coronavirus cases since last Wednesday, according to data from the county Public Health Department.

Hospitalizations are also low. Public Health reported three people were receiving treatment in area hospitals on Wednesday, with no patients in local intensive care units, according to the Public Health Department.

This is the second week without any new deaths. Locally, 496 people have died due to the virus.

The decline in local COVID cases dropped the two-week rolling average to 14, the lowest it’s been since July 20, 2021.

The number of COVID active cases now stands at 141, a slight uptick from 130 cases this time last week but a significant difference from this time last month. On March 13, the county reported 364 active COVID cases.

  • COVID case numbers do not include positive at-home tests, meaning the numbers may be an undercount of local coronavirus cases.

    In total, 53,534 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.

    Although county numbers indicate the winter omicron surge slowed into spring, health officials recommend all eligible people to stay up-to-date on their coronavirus vaccines to reduce the risk of hospitalization and death from the virus.

    The agency on April 13 date released data showing that unvaccinated people account for about 65% of COVID-19 cases, 75% of hospitalizations and 68% of deaths since June 15.

    Over the past week, these are the top coronavirus cases by city: 36 in San Luis Obispo, 26 in Paso Robles and 11 in Atascadero.

    Where to get a COVID-19 test and schedule a vaccine appointment

    Free coronavirus testing is available at clinics in San Luis Obispo, Grover Beach and Paso Robles.

    Testing is administered at 801 Grand Ave in San Luis Obispo, 1336 Ramona Ave #A in Grover Beach and 800 Pine Street in Paso Robles.

    To make an appointment for a COVID-19 vaccine or booster, call 805-781-5500 or the clinic site to schedule an appointment . The county Public Health Department is also administering vaccines and boosters on a walk-in basis at public health clinics in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles and Grover Beach.
