Local businesses and nonprofits roiled by the economic impacts of COVID-19 can apply for grant funding from San Luis Obispo County.

The county is offering about $5.5 million to local organizations through its federal American Rescue Plan Act allocation. The county divided the grant application cycle into two programs, according to a news release.

Of that total, up to $3 million will go to local nonprofits that experienced financial hardship during the pandemic. Nonprofits can also apply for funding to provide services to affected by the pandemic. Deadline for the first program is March 1.

The other $2.5 million will go to local businesses who offer technical assistance, workforce development and job training to community members impacted by COVID-19. The deadline for the second program is Feb. 23.

“The county is pleased to offer these resources to local organizations to help our businesses and community members in need,” said District 5 Supervisor Debbie Arnold, who serves on the board’s subcommittee on ARPA funding, in the release.

“We recognize the tremendous challenges nonprofits and businesses have experienced during the pandemic, and we hope these grant opportunities will provide relief,” said District 3 Supervisor Dawn Ortiz-Legg, who also serves on the APRA subcommittee.

The county is taking applications for the annual Community Based Organization and Preventive Health Grant (CBO/PHG) programs. This grant cycle closes on March 1 and is open to local programs that support and complement the efforts of the county’s health and human services departments, the release said.

More COVID-19 relief money should be available to local businesses through the county in the upcoming weeks, the release said.
