The San Luis Obispo Children’s Museum has closed temporarily in response to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the county. The museum will be closed through January or “until the Omicron surge slows.”

The announcement came Tuesday in an email and via social media posts. The museum said it will use data from the county’s Public Health Department to assess when it will be a safe time to reopen. Memberships will be frozen in the interim.

“We will always put our little ones first. Thank you for your understanding as we navigate this challenging time,” the announcement said.

Positive COVID-19 cases have been rising as the omicron variant spreads in San Luis Obispo County with more than 500 reported over two days last week, according to county data.
