San Luis Obispo County passed 30,000 total positive cases for COVID-19 on Friday, hitting another milestone in the course of the deadly pandemic.

On Friday, the county added 173 new COVID-19 cases from the last three days, bringing the total to 30,130.

No new deaths were reported, and the pandemic total remains 358.

Assessing the current trends, the 14-day average number of new cases increased slightly from 34 on Tuesday to 36 on Friday, according to data from the county Public Health Department.

Likewise, the number of active cases rose back above 300 to 321 after hitting a recent low of 239 earlier this week.

Public Health reported 12 county residents were receiving treatment in area hospitals as of Friday, including two patients in local intensive care units. The hospitalizations involve two people ages 50-64, one person 65-84 and one age 30-49, according to public health data.

Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past four days break down day by day:

  • Wednesday: 29

  • Thursday: 79
  • Friday: 65
  • The Public Health Department is not providing information about how many newly reported individual cases, hospitalizations and deaths involve vaccinated and unvaccinated people due to resource limitations and privacy concerns.

Instead, Public Health is releasing weekly data showing the percentages of unvaccinated people who’ve contracted COVID-19, received hospital treatment for the virus or died from it since June 15.

The lastest county numbers as of Nov. 12 show that unvaccinated people account for 77% of COVID-19 cases, 82% of hospitalizations and 72% of deaths since June 15.
