More hopeful news on the COVID front as SLO County sees its best single day in months
San Luis Obispo County saw its fewest new daily COVID-19 cases in weeks when only five were reported on Tuesday, according to data from the county Public Health Department.
SLO County hasn’t seen a day with that few new cases since early July, although it came only a few days after 76 cases were reported on Saturday.
Overall, 146 new cases were reported over the last four days, and the 14-day average number of new daily cases fell to 46, the lowest it’s been since Aug. 4.
No new deaths have been reported in the last eight days, and only two SLO County residents are currently in intensive care. Overall, 16 people are hospitalized with the virus.
Available ICU capacity has climbed to 58%.
A total of 331 SLO County residents have died of COVID-19 throughout the course of the pandemic.
The number of active COVID-19 cases now stands at 1,019.
The trend lines over the last several weeks continue to suggest that the worst of the Delta variant surge has passed, though public health officials remain wary and continue to urge those who have not yet received shots to get vaccinated against the virus as the winter months approach.
Here’s how local coronavirus case numbers from the past four days break down day-by-day:
In total, 28,601 San Luis Obispo County residents have tested positive for coronavirus since March 2020.
The county Public Health Department is not providing information about how many newly reported individual cases, hospitalizations and deaths involve vaccinated and unvaccinated people due to resource limitations and privacy concerns.
Instead, Public Health is releasing monthly data showing the percentages of unvaccinated people who’ve contracted COVID-19, received hospital treatment for the virus or died from it since June 15.
The agency on Aug. 31 released data showing 76.9% COVID-19 cases, 85.5% of hospitalizations and 79% of deaths since June 15 have involved unvaccinated people.
