SLO County adds 33 new coronavirus cases; 3 people now in ICU

San Luis Obispo County added 33 COVID-19 cases on Friday after an uptick in positive tests earlier in the week, according to ReadySLO.org.

A total of 4,298 people have tested positive for COVID-19 locally since March.

As of Tuesday, San Luis Obispo County remains in California’s red COVID-19 tier — meaning that coronavirus spread has been “substantial,” according to the California State Department of Public Health, but it has made progress in the three state metrics to move closer to the “moderate” or orange tier.

The county’s positivity rate is at 2% as of the latest data, representing no change from last week and placed at the bottom edge of the orange tier.

It has an adjusted average of 4.0 new cases per 100,000 people per day, with an unadjusted case rate of 6.0, according to state data. That’s also on the brink of dropping to the lower tier.

And the health equity metric is at 3%, meaning that there is a 3% positivity rate for people who live in the 12 census tracts in San Luis Obispo County ranked in the lowest quarter of California’s Health Place Index. That also is in the “moderate” tier’s range.
