More Cal Poly students test positive for COVID-19
Cal Poly added eight new coronavirus cases since Monday, all from students, according to the university’s COVID-19 information website.
That brings its total to 29 total cases since March — 23 of which involve students, and six of which involve university employees. Of the positive cases, 22 live in San Luis Obispo County.
On Monday, 15 students had tested positive since March, along with six teachers.
Cal Poly has conducted 355 COVID-19 tests for enrolled students through Campus Health and Wellbeing.
The increase in cases from Cal Poly students and staff comes as San Luis Obispo County added 22 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of people who have locally tested positive for COVID-19 since March to 2,300, according to EmergencySLO.org.
Of the most recent local cases four involve people 50 and older, while 18 involve people under the age of 50.
A majority of San Luis Obispo County residents who’ve tested positive for COVID-19 — 1,935 — have completely recovered from the illness. A total of 327 people are still recovering at home. Of the 21 patients receiving hospital treatment, five patients remain in intensive care units.
There have been 17 local deaths related to coronavirus.
