2 more SLO County residents die due to COVID-19
Two more San Luis Obispo County residents have died due to coronavirus, according to ReadySLO.org.
As of Thursday, 14 county residents have died due to COVID-19.
The two latest deaths involved people in their 80s who had underlying health conditions, according to a county news release Thursday.
One of the deaths was that of a hospitalized resident who lived at Vineyard Hills Health Center, a skilled nursing facility in Templeton that is experiencing a coronavirus outbreak.
Of the 14 coronavirus-related deaths in San Luis Obispo County, six have been tied to Vineyard Hills.
The other person lived at an assisted living facility in Atascadero, according to the release. The county did not name the facility.
“Our community has been touched by more loss,” public health officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said in the release. “This, and other outbreaks, is preventable. Let’s all do what we can to slow the spread of COVID-19 to protect the most vulnerable among us.”
Six coronavirus-related deaths have been reported in the past seven days.
A former Vineyard Hills resident who was in their 80s died last Thursday. The person had underlying health conditions and was hospitalized after being released from the facility.
Two Vineyard Hills residents in their 80s with underlying health conditions died Tuesday, and another death related to the Templeton nursing home outbreak was announced Wednesday afternoon.
At least one coronavirus-related death was reported earlier in the pandemic at both Ingleside Park Assisted Living Center in Atascadero and Vista Rosa Assisted Living Facility in San Luis Obispo, according to the California Department of Social Services.
The county added 30 new cases of coronavirus Thursday, bringing the total number of people who have locally tested positive for COVID-19 since March to 1,740, according to ReadySLO.org.
