With 8 new coronavirus cases, SLO County now has nearly 300 total
San Luis Obispo County added eight confirmed coronavirus cases on Monday — 299 local residents have now tested positive for COVID-19 since March, according to ReadySLO.org.
The county no longer reports case increases over the weekend and includes them in Monday’s count.
More than 500 people in the county were tested since Friday. Starting today, free state testing will be available in San Luis Obispo.
Of the eight newest cases, one case was added in Arroyo Grande, one in San Luis Obispo, one in Templeton and one in Morro Bay. Two cases are in Nipomo and two are in areas with fewer than five cases.
SLO County’s COVID-19 cases by the numbers
Of the 299 local residents who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, 266 have completely recovered from the illness, with six new recoveries reported since Friday.
Twenty-five people are still recovering at home. Five patients are receiving hospital treatment, and three patients are in intensive care units.
One local resident has died from COVID-19.
There was no increase in cases in Paso Robles since Friday, however it continues to have the most COVID-19 cases in the county with 122.
Atascadero has 40 cases, Arroyo Grande has 24 cases, Nipomo has 29 cases, San Luis Obispo has 21 cases and California Men’s Colony has 11 cases.
Pismo Beach and San Miguel both have nine, Templeton has 10, and Morro Bay has seven cases. Other areas — defined as cities or communities with fewer than five cases — have 17 cases altogether.
Seventy-six cases involve people ages 50 to 64, and 51 cases are age 65 and older.
There are 142 residents aged 18 to 49 who’ve tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining 30 cases involve people ages 17 and younger.
The county has determined 53 patients acquired the virus through travel, 138 acquired it through person-to-person contact and 99 contracted it through community spread.
The county has not determined the route of transmission for nine cases.
Private and public health labs have performed a combined total of 12,482 tests. Between Friday and Monday, labs performed 551 tests for county residents.
The county’s Public Health lab has conducted 3,497 tests with 91 positive results. Private labs have conducted at least 8,985 tests with 208 positive results.
Private labs have reported negative results to the county since April 13.
When and where to get a COVID-19 test
As of June 8, free state testing will be available in San Luis Obispo at 801 Grand Ave. on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Testing will continue at the Grover Beach location at Ramona Garden Park Center at 993 Ramona Ave. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.
Testing will also be available in the El Camino Real Homeless Organization (ECHO) parking lot at 6370 Atascadero Ave. in Atascadero from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11.
