SLO County adds 3 new coronavirus cases — all in different regions

San Luis Obispo County added three confirmed coronavirus cases on Friday — 291 local residents have now tested positive for COVID-19 since March, according to ReadySLO.org.

The county on Thursday had the second-largest single-day increase in COVID-19 cases with nine positive tests. County Public Health Department officials announced the first local coronavirus case on March 14.

The three newly-confirmed cases are located in Atascadero, Nipomo and San Luis Obispo.

SLO County’s COVID-19 cases by the numbers

Of the 291 local residents who’ve tested positive for COVID-19, 262 have completely recovered from the illness, with three new recoveries reported since Thursday.

Twenty-three people are still recovering at home. Five patients are receiving hospital treatment, and three patients are in intensive care units.

One local resident has died from COVID-19.

Paso Robles continues to have the most COVID-19 cases in the county with 122. Atascadero has 40 cases, Arroyo Grande has 23 cases, Nipomo has 27 cases, San Luis Obispo has 20 cases and California Men’s Colony has 11 cases.

Pismo Beach, San Miguel and Templeton all have nine cases and Morro Bay has six cases. Other areas — defined as cities or communities with fewer than five cases — have 15 cases altogether.

Seventy-three cases involve people ages 50 to 64, and 50 cases are age 65 and older.

There are 138 residents aged 18 to 49 who’ve tested positive for COVID-19. The remaining 30 cases involve people ages 17 and younger.

The county has determined 51 patients acquired the virus through travel, 137 acquired it through person-to-person contact and 97 contracted it through community spread.

The county has not determined the route of transmission for six cases.

Private and public health labs have performed a combined total of 11,931 tests. Between Thursday and Friday, labs performed 148 tests for county residents.

The county’s Public Health lab has conducted 3,350 tests with 90 positive results. Private labs have conducted at least 8,581 tests with 201 positive results.

Private labs have reported negative results to the county since April 13.

When and where to get a COVID-19 test

The Paso Robles state-administered coronavirus testing center is closing on Friday.

Starting June 8, free state testing will be available in San Luis Obispo at 801 Grand Ave. on weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Testing will continue at the Grover Beach location at Ramona Garden Park Center at 993 Ramona Ave. from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays.

Testing will also be available in the El Camino Real Homeless Organization (ECHO) parking lot at 6370 Atascadero Ave. in Atascadero from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 10, and Thursday, June 11.
