SLO County adds one new confirmed coronavirus case on Memorial Day

San Luis Obispo County added one new coronavirus case Monday after recording none Sunday.

The total county case count is 259 confirmed cases. Of those, 234 have recovered.

Of those infected, 21 are recovering at home, three are hospitalized in the intensive care unit and one has died.

The county received the go-ahead from the state to lift restrictions on in-store dining and retail shopping Wednesday and officials will be keeping a close watch on the county case totals in coming weeks as the economy reopens.

County Public Health officials have held news briefings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, but no press conference is scheduled on Memorial Day.

The state has seen more than 94,500 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Sunday, according to the California Department of Public Health.

Health officials discouraged tourists from out of the area from visiting SLO County, even advertising in the Central Valley to help dissuade would-be travelers.

But many flocked to local beaches this weekend, despite hotels in the area only allowing 50 percent of their capacity.
