‘Every zombie movie ever.’ Photo of Ohio quarantine protest has social media buzzing

A photo of angry protesters outside the Ohio Statehouse at an anti-lockdown rally has evoked a strong reaction online.

About 100 people gathered outside the state capitol building in Columbus on Monday as Gov. Mike DeWine gave a daily coronavirus briefing, USA Today reported.

A photo shot by Joshua A. Bickel of The Columbus Dispatch captured a view of angry protesters through the glass doors of the statehouse as they called on DeWine to reopen the state, according to the newspaper.

The photo drew a flood of online commentary, including numerous unflattering comparisons to zombie movies.

Similar protests took place this week in Michigan, Kentucky and North Carolina, USA Today reported. Echoing calls by President Donald Trump to bolster the economy by ending stay-home orders, protesters called for a halt to coronavirus lockdowns.

More than 2 million cases of the COVID-19 virus have been confirmed worldwide with more than 138,000 deaths as of April 15, according to Johns Hopkins University. The United States has more than 639,000 confirmed cases with more than 30,000 deaths.

The World Health Organization has declared the COVID-19 virus a global pandemic. In the United States, Trump has declared a national emergency.

States and cities across the nation have issued shelter-in-place orders in an attempt to curb the spread of the virus, closing non-essential businesses and telling people to stay home.
