Everyone in this California county can now get a coronavirus test. Here’s how

Residents living in Los Angeles County can now register online to get a coronavirus test, media outlets reported.

Mayor Eric Garcetti said during a press briefing that this “is a make-or-break week for us all to keep the momentum going and to ensure that we have the ability to continue to flatten the curve that will ensure we save the lives of loved ones,” according to NBC News.

Garcetti said Los Angeles can test 18,000 people this week, NBC reported. ”The county and other partners” will be able to test another 18,000.

Before this, testing was only for people 65 years and older, people with underlying medical conditions, or those showing symptoms, according to NBC.

Los Angeles residents can register online to get a test, according to The Los Angeles Times. Walk-in appointments aren’t usually accepted, the outlet reported.

Those wanting a test will be taught how to swab their throat and mouth and will then administer the test themselves, according to The Los Angeles Times. Waiting times to get test results will vary, the outlet reported.

People can also find an instructional video on how to take the test online. The test includes a nasal swab that’s collected by a professional, according to the website.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health previously told doctors to test patients only if “a positive result would actually impact their treatment,” The Daily Beast reported.

As of April 7, there are over 386,000 confirmed coronavirus cases in the US, according to Johns Hopkins University.
