Another SLO County resident tests positive for coronavirus. That brings total to 7
San Luis Obispo County now has seven confirmed cases of coronavirus.
San Luis Obispo County emergency services director Wade Horton said that an additional case of COVID-19 has been confirmed as of Wednesday.
Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said the new person lives in South County and is in their 40s with underlying health concerns.
In response, the county issued an emergency order requiring San Luis Obispo County residents to shelter in place until further notice.
The numbers have been steadily increasing since the county’s first confirmed case on Saturday.
On Tuesday, Borenstein announced the local tally had doubled overnight, growing to six.
The cases span across the county, with multiple cases in both the North County and South County, and at least one on the coast. Some of the patients are above 65, while others are younger with underlying health conditions.
Symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough and shortness of breath. Older adults and individuals with underlying medical conditions are particularly vulnerable to the virus.
Health officials urge those who exhibit these symptoms to stay home, avoid contact with others, and call their health care provider or urgent care clinic before seeking medical care to receive safe arrival instructions, if directed to do so. Go to the emergency room only if you are experiencing a medical emergency.
