Santa Barbara County’s Alisal Fire reaches 50% containment, with 17,200 acres burned

Firefighters reached 50% containment of the Alisal Fire, according to the U.S. Forest Service’s Inciweb Incident Information System.

The fire burned 17,200 acres by Saturday morning, Santa Barbara County Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason wrote in a tweet.

While Highway 101 reopened Thursday after a three-day closure, 1,747 personnel were assigned to the blaze along the Gaviota coast, according to Eliason.

On Friday night, helicopters attacked the blaze to the east near Gaviota, according to a U.S. Forest Service news release.

Firefighters’ goal for Saturday will be “to control patches of heat remaining along the northern edge of the fire,” officials said in the news release.

As dry and warm conditions continue, crews may use aviation assets as they work to hold the fire, according to U.S. Forest Service.

Some evacuation orders were canceled Friday evening, The Tribune reported.

The evacuation order for Arroyo Quemada was lifted, fire officials said, and the evacuation warning for the area east of El Capitan Beach State Park, west of Dos Pueblos Canyon Road and south of West Camino Cielo was canceled.
