Dolan Fire near Big Sur grows more than 2,400 acres overnight
The Dolan Fire near Big Sur increased an additional 2,400 acres overnight into Saturday, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
The fire has now burned a total of 115,440 and is 30% contained. It has destroyed 14 structures and damaged four others.
Fire behavior was moderated by a thick layer of smoke Friday, which provided favorable conditions for firefighters, the Forest Service said. A total of 752 personnel are working the fire.
Burn operations held overnight, and firefighters were able to make good progress along Nacimiento-Fergusson Road, bringing the fire down toward Highway 1.
Moderate activity was reported west of the Nacimiento-Ferguson Road near Ponderosa campground, with slower rates of spread farther inland.
The fire activity along the coast has lessened but there are still areas of active burning, and rocks and debris continue to fall regularly onto Highway 1, which remains closed from Gorda to three miles north of Slate Hot springs, according to the U.S. Forest Service.
Nacimiento-Fergusson Road is closed to all traffic from Highway 1 to the Fort Hunter Liggett base boundary line. For more information visit the Caltrans current highway conditions website.
