Highway 154 to see road closures for Thomas Fire fight

The California Highway Patrol on Wednesday announced that it will close Highway 154 to all traffic from 5 to 9 a.m. daily, “for the foreseeable future” near a new Thomas Fire camp at Lake Cachuma.

Highway 154 will close from Highway 246 on the Santa Ynez Valley side to Cathedral Oaks Road on the Santa Barbara side, CHP Officer Rick Larson said.

Even when the road is open, drivers are asked to use Highway 101 as an alternate route.

Cal Fire noted that the Lake Cachuma base camp area and Highway 154 will be heavily congested with fire equipment. The new camp gives firefighting crews closer access to the western front of the Thomas Fire burning near Montecito and Carpinteria.

Check current highway conditions here on the Caltrans website or on the CHP incident page.
