California Powerball player wins nearly $2 million as jackpot hits $1.1 billion
A Powerball ticket sold in Sacramento fell just one number short of winning the $1.06 billion jackpot, lottery officials said.
Instead, the lucky ticket won $1,975,554.
The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, Dec. 13, the California State Lottery said.
Four other tickets matched four numbers and the Powerball to win $57,024 each.
California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
Where were winning Powerball tickets sold in California?
The $1.9 million ticket was sold at Lichine’s Liquor and Deli at 7107 S. Land Park Drive in south Sacramento.
The four $57,000 tickets were sold at Jerry’s Liquor & Water Market at 11402 Artesia Blvd. in Artesia, a Pinnacle 365 Convenience Store at 417 N. Main St. in Salinas, a 7-Eleven at 657 N. Santa Cruz Ave. in Los Gatos and Pavilions Place at 9467 W. Olympic Blvd. in Beverly Hills, lottery officials said.
What were winning numbers in Saturday’s drawing?
The winning numbers were 1, 28, 37, 57 and 58 with a Powerball of 16.
The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
Tickets sold in North Carolina and Pennsylvania also hit the Power Play multiplier to win $2 million each, while tickets sold in Florida, Michigan, New Jersey and Virginia won $1 million each, the national Powerball site said.
What is the Powerball jackpot up to now?
Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $1.1 billion, with a cash value of about $503.4 million, for the next drawing Monday, Dec. 15, the national Powerball site said.
More than 3 million other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said. There were more than 410,000 winners in California.
The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.
How to play Powerball lottery game
To score a jackpot in Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
When is the next Powerball drawing?
Powerball drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 7:59 p.m. Pacific Time and can be streamed online.
The next drawing will be Monday, Dec. 15.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
