California player wins millions in Mega Millions. Where was lucky ticket sold?

A Mega Millions ticket sold in California fell just one number short of winning the $50 million jackpot, lottery officials said.

Instead, the lucky ticket won $5,104,960.

The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Mega Ball in the drawing Friday, Dec. 5, with a 2x multiplier, the California State Lottery said.

California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.

The lucky ticket was sold at a CVS store at 3049 E. Coast Highway in Corona Del Mar, which is about a 45-mile drive southeast from Los Angeles.

Drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays at 8 p.m. PT and can be streamed online.

The next drawing will be Tuesday, Dec. 9.
