‘Exceptional’ Pasadena home spotted in films, TV for sale. See lakefront estate

A lakefront Pasadena home featured in films and television shows starring Will Ferrell and Halle Berry is for sale for $6.8 million.

The 4,539-square-foot, one-story home is located minutes from the Rose Bowl, real estate agents said.

Built in 2006, the “exceptional” four-bedroom, five-bath home sits on a half-acre lot on a private lake with a 30-foot dock and several outdoor terraces, according to the listing by real estate agent Nancy Valentine.

“A masterwork of Progressive-style architecture, the home celebrates natural materials, abundant light and seamless indoor-outdoor flow, offering a living experience that is both architecturally significant and emotionally restorative,” the listing said.

Who designed Pasadena home for sale?

The Craftsman-style home at 1260 La Loma Road in Pasadena features “hand-hewn beams, natural stone and reclaimed wood,” real estate agents said.

The great room features 18-foot beams with a “massive boulder fireplace” and windows overlooking the lake, the listing said.

“The primary suite is a true retreat, featuring a fireplace, sumptuous spa bath, generous walk-in closet and private patio that captures the serenity of the setting,” the listing said.

The estate has a guest house and outdoor rooms for hosting events, retreats and gatherings.

The home was designed by architect Doug Ewing, known for his “private estates for Ralph Lauren, high-profile creatives and luxury hospitality projects,” real estate agents said.

The estate sits on the banks of Johnston Lake, Pasadena’s only private lake.

The lake, created in 1876 by a former mayor, once was open to the public but became private in 1953, serving 18 homes in a gated lakeside community, real estate agents said.

What’s the story behind the home?

The current owners of the La Loma Road property bought a nearby home in 1989, then purchased a neighboring home on the lakefront sight unseen when it came up for sale in 1997.

As they examined other Pasadena homes while planning to build their dream home, they realized they all were designed by Ewing, real estate agents said.

In about 2005, they knocked down all but one wall and built the current home.

The couple eventually decided to sell the home and move to be closer to their children and grandkids.
