A “fun” duo of sea creatures was spotted circling a boat, and bystanders loved the sight off the coast of California.

Two fin whales were seen chasing a group of bottlenose dolphins before swimming around the boat to give onlookers a proper “hello,” according to an April 28 Facebook post by Newport Landing Whale Watching.

Someone in the video can be heard saying, “Oh my gosh,” after one of the whales surfaced for air, the video showed.

Fin whales are the second-largest whale species on the planet and have a “distinctive coloration – black or dark brownish-gray on the back and sides and white on the underside,” according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

They are “fast swimmers” and usually travel in groups of two to seven while feeding on small schools of fish or krill, the NOAA said.

The “calm seas” after some rain allowed for the group to see the two fin whales, four gray whales, 50 bottlenose dolphins and over 500 common dolphins over the course of their trip, the whale watching company said.

Newport Beach is about a 50-mile drive southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
