California students can get $20,000 for college. Here’s how to apply before the deadline
California students have a chance to win thousands in college scholarships.
Golden 1 Credit Union is offering in-state students a chance to take home $20,000 in college scholarships.
The California-based credit union recently announced it would award up to $500,000 in financial aid this year for Californians seeking higher education.
“Every year, we’re inspired by the dedication of our student applicants as they pursue their educational dreams,” said Erica Taylor, Golden 1 Credit Union’s senior vice president of community impact. “Golden 1 is proud to help make higher education more accessible to students in the communities we serve.”
In 2024, the company awarded nearly 50 scholarships to students across the state, Golden 1 Credit Union said in a news release.
Here’s how to apply before the deadline:
Who is eligible for college scholarships?
California students must meet these criteria to apply for Golden 1 Credit Union’s college scholarship program:
- A minimum 3.0 grade point average
- 24 hours of community service or 24 hours of work experience in the past year
- Must be a Golden 1 Credit Union member (or a dependent of someone who’s a member)
- Attend or plan to attend an accredited nonprofit, two-year community college or four-year college or university in California as a full-time student
If students need help applying for the scholarship, the credit union is offering free virtual advice from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 27.
Students can sign up here.
“Our scholarship program offers valuable educational opportunities for California students,” Taylor said. “We encourage all eligible students to apply as they pursue their academic goals, and we’re excited to see them grow into the next generation of leaders.”
