90-year-old and man with walker injured in ‘callous’ attacks, California police say
A 27-year-old man brutally beat a 90-year-old man on a San Francisco bus, then shoved a 68-year-old man with a walker to the pavement, California police say.
Officers arrested the man following the “callous” attacks Tuesday, Oct. 15, San Francisco police said in an Oct. 16 news release.
Jahad Antoine faces charges including resisting or delaying arrest, elder abuse, assault likely to produce great bodily injury, assault with a deadly weapon likely to produce great bodily injury, battery against an operator, driver or passenger on a bus and inflicting great bodily injury on a person who is 70 years of age or older, police said.
“These callous attacks on our most vulnerable community members are unconscionable,” Chief Bill Scott said in the news release.
Antoine charged a 90-year-old man aboard a bus at about 10:19 a.m., knocking him down and kicking him, police said. The man was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
At 12:30 p.m., Antoine knocked a 68-year-old man using a walker to the pavement at Hallidae Plaza, police said.
The man struck his head on the pavement and was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.
Onlookers flagged down officers, who spotted Antoine at UN Plaza, police said. He tried to run away, but officers caught up to him and arrested him, police said.
