Fake food delivery driver behind ‘numerous’ home burglaries, California police say
A man was arrested after being accused of posing as a food delivery driver to commit “numerous” home burglaries, California police say.
The 37-year-old Monrovia man was arrested Tuesday, June 18, on burglary counts related to a string of Irvine residential burglaries, the Irvine Police Department said in a Facebook post.
At the time of the burglaries, police said the man typically carried a bag, giving him the appearance of a food delivery driver.
“It gives him the appearance he’s delivering something so it allows him to wander around” looking for homes with doors or windows unlocked, Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesperson for Irvine police, told City News Service.
The man stole more than $14,000 in jewelry during a November burglary at an apartment complex, police said in a May 17 Facebook post requesting information on the suspect
In late April, the man was seen on video surveillance at the same complex, police said. After he couldn’t get into the apartment through the front door, he entered through the patio door.
So far, the man has been tied to at least four home burglaries, Kyle told City News Service.
Police said they are working with other agencies to determine if the man has committed additional burglaries in other areas.
Anyone with information about the potential additional crimes is asked to email police at jhause@cityofirvine.org.
