Mom left 3 kids alone for hours at short-term rental home to use cocaine, CA cops say
A mother left her three children alone at a short-term rental home for hours as she used cocaine, California deputies say.
The 44-year-old Fawnskin woman was arrested on child abuse and neglect charges Saturday, June 1, after deputies responded to her home on multiple occasions, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said in a June 3 news release.
Deputies first responded to a Big Bear city short-term rental home for a welfare check the evening of Friday, May 31, after the woman was accused of leaving her three children alone for five hours, the department said.
Deputies said they forwarded a report about the incident to the San Bernardino County Children and Family Services.
The following day, deputies were called out to the same woman’s Fawnskin home regarding more than four dozen dogs in cages left “in the heat without food and water,” the sheriff’s department said.
The woman, who told authorities she cared for the dogs, was arrested but later released with an animal cruelty citation, according to deputies.
Later that day, deputies were again called to the woman’s home, the department said.
This time, deputies said they were looking into the possible neglect of the woman’s 8-year-old daughter.
The girl was taken to a hospital for “neglected wounds,” deputies said.
While investigating, deputies said they learned the woman had left her children alone Friday evening to use cocaine more than 40 miles away in Victorville.
The woman was arrested on child abuse/neglect charges, deputies said.
After being removed from the woman’s care, deputies said the county’s children and family services took over caring for the three children.
The woman, who is being held on $100,000 bail, is expected to appear in court on June 4.
