Best tableside guacamole in the US? California has two of the top contenders, Yelp says
Two Mexican restaurants in California are among the top in the U.S. for tableside guacamole, Yelp says.
El Paseo Inn in Los Angeles and Sol Y Luna in Tarzana were recognized on Yelp’s list of “top tableside guacamole in the U.S. and Canada.”
To find the best guac in the country, Yelp identified businesses in the site’s food and restaurants category that had reviews mentioning “tableside guacamole” and “tableside guac.”
Then the restaurants were ranked based on the volume and rankings of reviews, “limiting two businesses per state.”
El Paseo Inn — Los Angeles
El Paseo, a Mexican restaurant near Union Station in Los Angeles, serves some of the best fresh tableside guacamole, according to Yelp.
And Yelp reviewers agree.
“Such a peaceful place to enjoy a yummy beer and fresh tableside guacamole,” one reviewer wrote.
“This restaurant has the most wonderful margaritas and the best tableside guacamole and is just a classic beautiful wonderful historical place in Los Angeles,” another reviewer said.
The restaurant also serves other notable dishes, including the chicken mole enchiladas, shredded chicken enchiladas and the chile verde plate.
Sol Y Luna — Tarzana
Sol Y Luna is in Los Angeles’ Tarzana neighborhood, and there’s usually “a line going out the door.”
The popular establishment doesn’t take reservations, so reviewers recommend getting there early, especially if you want to snag some guacamole.
“Make sure to take my advice and ORDER THEIR GUAC!! At Sol y Luna, a chef makes your guacamole in front of your table on a rolling cart and then hands you the final masterpiece,” one reviewer wrote.
Spice levels in the guacamole can also be modified to one’s preference, another reviewer wrote.
Yelp reviewers also raved about the chile relleno, the arroz con pollo plate and the queso fundido.
