A 23-month-old girl died after being hit by an Amazon delivery van in an Irvine apartment complex parking lot, California police said.

The incident took place about 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, near the 300 block of Estancia, police said in a news release. First responders tried to aid the toddler but she had died.

No drugs or alcohol are thought to have been involved, police said. The driver was a third-party contractor for Amazon.

Irvine is a city of 307,000 south of Santa Ana about 40 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
