A man was left dead and a woman injured following two random attacks in California, police said.

Police responded to a call regarding a shooting Friday, June 3, after three men approached a man and shot him multiple times in his upper body in an unprovoked attack, the Long Beach Police Department said in a statement.

When police arrived, good Samaritans were trying to save the victim, police said. The man, later identified as 24-year-old Long Beach resident Duwayane Thomas, was taken to the hospital where he died.

As the three men were fleeing, they also shot and injured a woman driving by who had no relation to the first victim, police said. The woman was transported to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

Police ask for anyone with information to contact Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Michael Hutchinson at (562) 570-7244, or to anonymously send a tip by calling 800-222-TIPS (8477).
